(I apologize if this is the wrong forum section for this thread, I'm very new to the site; LMK if there's a more appropriate section to post this and I'll delete + repost this there)
I'm writing a story that has an arc involving a game of human chess where if a piece is eliminated, the person representing that piece literally dies. I'm thinking that the game ends with White winning, who has around 6 pieces remaining (including the King) but lost its Queen, a major character, at some point during the match.
The problem is that I have never played chess at all beforehand. I could set up an Bot vs. Bot match and try writing off the results from it but A) I found them tedious to set up and B) the results from the match might be different from what I'm intending for the story.
I asked around in a Discord server and was advised to go get help from someone who knows chess since they said it would be faster than trying to learn how chess works. I didn't have friends that play chess, so I figured I'll give this website a shot since I recall hearing it has forums. Any tips and advice on writing such a chess scene?
