Rybka could easily beat any top GM in a long match. Is the question if they'll ever allow non-humans to be the World Chess Champion?
How Long Until Computers Become Champion?

First of all, I doubt even the wisest chess master is a psychic, so no one can tell you "which computer it will be, in which year, and who it'll beat." Second, as N-k5 said, Rybka can beat any human without breaking a sweat... And I highly doubt they will ever have computers compete to be World Chess Champion. That seems ridiculous. Chess is a human sport and computers are learning tools.
That's my two cents and maybe I'm talking crazy, but that seems a little... off-base.

I think the question is misplaced. John Henry was a steel driving man, but his poor human heart exploded when he tried to keep up with a steam engine, is that it? The pride we've placed in our intellects has been destroyed because our poor human brains can't keep up with powerful chess engines driven by super computers?
Chess is a game played between two humans. To this point, I don't beleive computers have self awareness or will, and they are incapable of becoming tired. Computers are a tool that we invented. Instead of speculating about when or if one will become world champion, I think we should focus on what we can learn from them - if anything. Maybe their existence will lead to the next phase in the development of chess theory.

Never, because they are not human. The title of world champion is for humans.
It is the same reason that a car is not the champion in the 1000meter race.

I don't know why chess people get so hung up on this. Its a machine. It calculates. Comparing human play and machine play is like comparing apples and oranges.

Exactly my sentiments. There's nothing wrong with a chess engine championship, and I also see nothing wrong with humans playing individual rated games against computers if they so wish. But the tournament route should be reserved strictly for humans.
humans will win in chess...engines are always inferior to humans as there are (2x10tothepowerof46 i think) different moves in chess. programming a computer to analyse through so many possibilities is impossible, so the programmers add the most commonly known ones first to the most bizzarre. if a human plays the less common moves, the engine will be stumped, so it may move incorrectly, or lose positional advantage. a human can always decide on positions and spacial area, so humans have an advantage.
How long will it be until computers (Fritz, Deep Blue etc....) become the World Chess Champions? Please tell me which computer it will be, in which year, and who it'll beat.
