One could call the Queen any of the four following names: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon. Anybody? I know you're out there!

My Preacher (Bishop )

My Warrior (Knight)

Indeed. Another Queen song: March of the Black Queen. Make of that what you will. However, it was not a chess reference in any way :O

Charles, I think they are named after the English hierarchy, Apart from the rooks and the pawns: I don't know where the hell they came from. Yours would make more sense, but I think the pawns should be called 'schildkröte' because they move so slowly.

I'm too lazy to look it up on Wiki, but isn't 'ruk' the old Persian word for 'chariot'? And 'pawns' are probably called that way because they're just that ... small, insignificant pawns in the politics of the two big, mean dudes on the e-file. But anyhow, I might be mistaken.

Other than that, I couldn't laugh at anything else in that article.

Lol. I also found it funny how much effort it would take to annotate, for example, Nf3.

"1750:  K. knight to His Bishop's 3d."

Surprised

I am reading a book by Capablanca in which he writes like that. My eyes hurt after reading it....

I originally downloaded the original Spanish version, but I know no chess jargon in Spanish, so I had to get the English version.
