how?

whites king bishop pawn is blocking the way

Yeah it was good. He puts some quality stuff here.

On the other hand, EvinSung sometimes posts legal positions here.

But, I didn't actually PLAY through it like you did. I just analyzed Black's pieces and drew my conclusion from that.

Analyzing a player's pieces is a way to prove a position illegal. A proof game is the way to prove a position legal.

Ilampozhil25

yeah, maybe there is a deadlock and your player analysis is wrong (when claiming legal)(sometimes)

p.s. it took an im to get the proof game, but i dont think castling is needed to be possible unless states

This is the proof game I was working on while thelegend759 was making one. It's a little shorter, but thelegend759 finished first.

Ilampozhil25

think tygxc would shorten this

Probably. tygxc usually shortens any proof game I come up with. But this isn't the shortest proof game thread, so all we really needed was the first game from thelegend759.

Was going to say this was possible, but it's not possible because the white pawns make it so his dark square bishop should still be trapped, and the black pawns make it so that if a pawn promoted to a dark square bishop, it would be trapped.

The pawns wouldn’t be able to stack up like that there’s 8 pawns total at the start of the game. You have 6 left. Also wouldn’t pawn on b2 have to be captured by pawn on b6 for it to be there.

Ilampozhil25

b6 could have captured anyhting else

DefenderPug2

Ahhhhh. Ok

If the bishop on e5 came from c1, it has jumped over a white pawn. If it's a promoted piece, it has jumped over a black pawn. Bishops can't legally do that.

This is just another way to word the illegality proof MyNameIsNotBuddy has already given.

This one might be a little too easy, but it's an improvement over your previous one, which was legal.

This is a common trick puzzle, because it appears in a semi-famous book, but is it possible for this position to be reached with white to move?

It's impossible because the white bishops are gone and the white pawns haven't moved
