imo, just teleport any piece anywhere at any point in the game (no captures allowed, though!)

Indeed, why restrict it to a single piece - teleport as many as you like and call it an illegal castle. What's wrong with captures?

Here's a legal move that produces two regular checks and one x-ray check. You could call that a triple check, but you might not be taken seriously.

What is the greatest amount of checks that can be legally done in a single move in any chess variant (fairy chess, etc.)? For example, in the atomic chess variant, a quadruple check is possible.

In atomic you can octuple check

Considering the great penetrating power some x-ray sources have, I would call it five x-ray checks. But I would put a white king on the board to make it a legal position.

To make your return memorable, you could post an illegal position that seems to be legal.

It's possible to go even further than that! If either side were able to have infinite material, a quindecuple check is possible; since neither side can promote that many pieces, the maximum legal check is an undecuple check. The maximum degree of discovered check or checkmate is a quadruple discovered check/checkmate.
