Is Howard Stern good for chess?

I think it's great for the game that Howard is talking about chess and perhaps exposing listeners into maybe becoming players.
It was either yesterday or today's show that there was a mention that he recently played the president of the Marshall Chess Club in Manhattan. Howard lost both games but received praise from the prez.

I am with you!

Don Imus talks about chess a lot, too, and how he plays it with his little boy.
Good for them. But I don't form my own opinions about chess, or anything else, by what disk jockeys have to say. Just me, I guess.

I don't think it's so much about people forming opinions of things based on what they hear on the radio, so much as breaking down negative opinions that uninformed people may already have. Let's face it - chess has a negative, "geeky" image to the general American public. For someone like Howard Stern to talk about it that much might make someone with that type of image of the game to think "Hmm... maybe it's not so geeky after all". And some of those people might just try playing it because of that.
On a more specific note, I have a coworker who used to play chess regularly, and he's a huge Howard Stern fan. Hearing Howard talk about it inspired him to start playing again, although he doesn't have time to really play a huge amount right now. So people like my coworker are another possible positive impact.

If there are any (which I doubt highly), do you really think they would say so, or, if they did, they would be believed?

Would they say so? No
If they did, would they be believed? No
Doesn't stop me wondering though...

I have been into chess for over 20 years, but now I feel so compelled to play because Howard Stern talks about it daily. You may not like him, but do you think him taking an avid role in chess helps the game or hinders it?
