Forget about it. Nobody castles these days.

It's faster to activate the rooks, and harder to attack the king.

Casteling is one of the 3 commandments of opening your game:

1. Thou shalt develop your pieces before begining manuevers against your opponent. It's best to have all of your soldiers alert and at a position to help aid in your later plans.

2. Thou shalt develop to control the center. The center is the most valuable piece of property on board. After, of course, the square on which the enemy king stands.Laughing

3. Thou shalt keep your king save, dry and reasonably intoxicated. Keeping your king in the corner helps prevent it being attacked during battle.

Ok, so do you understand now?

Next week our program will be 'en passant - truth or fiction'.

I must be one of those guys who don't castle . I walk the king out then fiaenchetto my king and double rooks on end file and attack enemy king. However I did castle in the last game I played here against some german person. Check it out I castled queenside on move 29 after he brought his king down on queen side my castled rook kept king over there as I just strolled on up an got a queen he resigned. I castled late but he still met his fate.

Connecting rooks would fall under # 1 - Thou shalt develop your pieces.

The commandments were laid down by beings much greater than us lowly patzers.

Please don't be tempted to commit blasphemy by changing them.

My commandments are from GM Igor Smirnov. No less qualified to give me commandments.;-) But I see your intentions. Still I compliment the entertainment.

The commandment of the center according to Smirnov is apart of the "All phases" commandments. That is why I don't address it as a strictly opening commandment.

Cheers!
