This couldn't possibly be drawn by an artist... the board is set up correctly
Did you tell them what was important (like h1 is white)?

Yep! To be honest, this artist didn't play chess, but I did gave that artist all the details I can give, including sample pictures to make sure the pieces and angle looks just right.
Here is the completed and shaded version of the picture. I think it looks beautiful, especially on how the chess pieces look.
It's neat to me because I'm trying to learn some basics about coloring and the first pic was just the "flats" and then in the 2nd they put in shading / texture / etc. and since a chess set has simple geometry so it's easier to understand various choices.

So have you drawn chess arts before?

Nope.
No matter what you're drawing, everything is cubes, circles, and cylinders. It's just sticking them together and overlapping them that makes objects.
Shading, color, and composition are their own topics, but if you have good fundamentals then you can draw whatever you want... chess or non-chess

I see.
Here is a color sketched picture drawn by an artist who I commissioned to draw and who works at myfurryart.com, based on my arcade game idea: Lucario's Chess Battles. What do you guys think?
