Well, of course it's a mate but '' 4. Kd5 ?? -> Qxb8! '' is pretty much avoiding the concept of mate a.k.a forced moves. What i mean is that white is supposed to win logically.

This is a forced mate in nine according to  http://www.k4it.de/index.php?topic=egtb&lang=en. White made terrible mistakes. For example, white can win the rook on the first move with 1. Qe3+, forking the king and the rook.

There were so many missed forking opportunities.

Playing the superior side against a computer in Q + K vs. R + K is actually fairly difficult and can trip up even some grandmasters.

If anybody has any tips on this endgame, I started a form a while back:

White is EXTREMELY drunk here. End of story.

Agreed. White could have exchanged their queen for blacks rook and the game would be a draw. White blundered.

So all this is showing is how to mate with rook and king... but it doesn't even do a good job of that.

White could have either forked or taken the rook on every move that they still had the queen. Plus who would move to king away from the queen and have it lost for no compensation when you could have atleast gotten a stalemate/draw...

No one in a right mind of thinking will loose in an end game with king and queen when it's verses a king-rook. At least manage a draw by trading pieces if the win is impossible...

why did the king move to Kc5?

Avatar of 1chessking

white definitly had advantage and should have won

Sorry but inaccurate play isn't too instructive =/.  White could have forked the king and rook on move one.
