My daughter is undefeated haha

My daughter has some interest in learning chess and I like to encourage something like that. Two weeks from now it could be a completely different story but for now she wants to learn how to play. So I am showing her some things.

Here is the funny part.

She wanted to play against someone on here since she knows I play here. So I set her up with an account for her to have some fun with. So we go to live chess and accept a seek.

I am watching her play and being a beginner she is making beginner moves. Well her opponent sets up a scholars mate threat. I tell her to move her knight up so she wouldn't have an immediate bad experience and lose interest since she is just beginning. Lets face it---getting checkmated on move 4 when you're just starting out can be a bit unsettling.

Next thing I know her opponent resigns as soon as the knight moved up. Resigning on the fourth move...

I check the profile and her opponent is 27 years old. My daughter is 8.

If he only knew...I just thought it was kind of funny.

That's odd. Maybe he knows the one line and can't beat anything else, even an 8 year old.

One suggestion- although avoiding mate is more important, in general try to avoid giving her too much unasked-for advice. People like to learn for themselves much more than from others.

rook_battery

I told her how the pieces move and the need to watch out for your pieces but not much else yet. She will learn much more if she is allowed to make some mistakes....plus it should be more fun for her once she gets a grasp on the game.

It is a little hard to play against an 8 year old though..but I have a beginners game for her on the video game system that should help her with some things.

It's also fun to lower your rating on purpose so that when you go face off against higher rated players, they don't think much of you and usually get surprised.

I have zero respect for sandbaggers....and do not resort to such tactics.

GmatCat

You coached her.... that doesn't count as a win.

So basically it was a case of cheating? Innocent All joking aside you shouldn't give her advice during a game, whether asked for or not.

What are the rules for playing?
You many only have ONE Chess.com member account. You may NOT get any help from any person or any chess engine throughout the course of a game,

The humorous point of the original post was that he unknowingly resigned to an 8 year old after just 3 moves. The only reason she was even on here in the first place was so she could play a game of chess on here and be like daddy. The game was going to be aborted anyway as we had to leave in just a few minutes anyway so she could go back to her mom's house. But he resigned about two minutes before the game was going to be aborted by me.

Whether I coached her or not is beside the point. Read the original post again.

rook_battery

Yes MM78 I am aware of that....but it was just a few minutes before she had to go back to her mom's house and I think this was a case of her wanting to move pieces around the board and nothing more on this occasion.

She already knows now that this was an exception to the rule here. She was told on the way to her mom's not to gloat about this "win" (Which we all know really wasn't a win).

he knew that he just faced 8 years old girl, that's why he resigned...

He would find that out, how?

GmatCat

She has her own account, rook_battery made her one. Just click her name and her profile will show up duh!?

People chill out, half the people in live chess are just 12 year olds looking to bitch at someone rather than play quality games.  I think it's kind of cool.  Maybe you should sign her up for chess mentor - when I was 8 I had a Garry Kasparov chess computer (still got it somewhere maybe) and I loved it.  I dread to think how good I might have been now if I'd had chess mentor and an unlimited supply of real people to beat.  As it was, I gave up chess as I was getting my head kicked in at school for too many reasons already!  Never give in to peer pressure and all that...shame it seems such a good idea when you're a kid!

It's just a funny story peeps, cool your britches! Smile

I assume he wouldnt list her real age (would she even be old enough to sign up?) And a ton of the listed ages here are fake. I dont think I'm playing a 98 year old when I see it listed for every few players.

Tricklev

I've seen this a few times aswell, there seems to be some people who heads for the opening trap (If you can call that trap) straight away, and if the opening trap(s) fail they leave the game right away.
