This was a game played by Lasker and he dominates with a brilliant queen sacrifice.

Found on the net at http://www.geocities.com/lifemasteraj/short_games.html where there are a bunch of great little games.

that tickled me nicely.. i love the whole 'making them pay' concept in chess...  marching a king to its death is my favorite

This was a game played by Lasker

Besides Emmanual Lasker, this game was also played by Sir George Thomas.

Sir George Thomas

Thomas, besides winning the British Chess championship twice (1923 and 1934), was also the British badminton champion seven times. His mother, Lady Edith Thomas, was a women's chess champion, having won the women's tournament at Hastings in 1895.

Thomas had an uneven, though not an altogether unspectacular chess career, but he never over-indulged in the game. He managed to have a plus score against Maroczy and even scores against Reti and Tarrasch.

He won games from Capablanca, Euwe, Tartakower and Flohr (although he lost more than he won) and drew against Alekhine (-7=6).

Losing a miniature game and finding out it has played before must make it even more galling.  I've seen this game before, but didn't realise it was played more than once. Thanks for the info, batgirl. Smile

I believe batgirl was simply giving us some background on the black player.

Yanagi is correct.  I apologize for being unclear.

Fantastic queen sac!

Razboi,

Yes, my goofy mistake.  Edward Lasker from Anderssen's home town of Breslau was no relation to Emmanuel Lasker.

Thanks for noticing that.
