My match - repercussions

I'm having a match against a member of this website who's a very strong chess player.

I actually feel quite lucky, as in two games played, I lead 2:0.

The match is scheduled to go to 24 games, when we're both free (we have some scheduling issues).

I won't say more about my opponent - except that his name is George, or similar to that...

In case the crowd recognizes the player in question, they are requested to maintain absolute silence about the matter, for reasons which would soon become clear, the writer hopes and expects.

The reader knows already that I may be found in Mexico these days.

Today I'm visiting the city of Xalapa, Veracruz - where several months ago I had my first (and only) simultaneous exhibition at the local chess club, scoring +15 -1.

Between my work commitments and hanging out with my girlfriend and her son - I knew I had ten minutes for a visit at the chess club.

I went there, and was like - I have time for one five-minute game.

One guy volunteered - but then we discovered that we have no clock available. So I said - fine, let's play each move in three seconds max...

The result is here in front of you - and you'll see very quickly how it's related to my match with George.

I mean about that Player's name. Was his FIDE rating 1050?

No Harish - the so called "1050" player was very very strong, and was from the Mexico City chess club. I would estimate his strength as around 2000.

This game was played in Xalapa, state of Veracruz - some 400 km away... told you I was on the road yesterday. I can't really estimate my opponent's strength based on this one game and otherwise I don't know him.

I get it about the strangeness... what can you do ?!?! :-)

This must be the famous Robert James, quite a strong player indeed. You know, those Mexican cactuses, mushrooms or herbs help you meet spirits of the dead Cool

lol!! He must be relearning the game then - and I hope that I provided a sufficiently instructive experience.
