Promote to a knight

In the past 7 months I have had 3 games where it was needed to promote to a knight. In two of these games I would have lost without this resource.

How often is it necessary to promote to a knight?  Post here any games where promote to a knight was necessary and the best move...

I didn't have a game in my game archive that it is necessay to promote to a knight to keep up the game. It happens very occasional, and 99.9 percent of time, I was necessary to promote the queen to keep up the game.

Albin counter gambit?

In TT you promote to a knight half of the times eheh

I've done it  once during a game here.  I was a wierd situation where I had to move the pawn, but promoting to a queen or rook would have got the piece immediatly snatched.

I promoted to a Knight hoping that my opponent would do something other than take the Knight.  It worked !!!

The albin game was interesting.

But promote to a knight in hopes it would not be seen--that is a new one.

How many have had games where it was absolutely necessary to promote to a knight or you would lose?  I guess I will have to give one of my games where I had to promoste to a knight or lose--seems to happen to me often compared to usual stats!!

I had an OTB game many years ago where I was losing and I promoted to a rook for psychological reasons. If I had promoted to a queen, my opponent's response would be forced -- he would have to take it. But as a rook, he had to sit and evaluate the capture vs. pressing his strong attack. He thought for about 10 minutes, then eventually took the rook, so the move at least bought me time on the clock.

I would have completely forgotten about this incident except that about 6 years later, he recognized me at another event. He said "you're the guy who rooked a pawn!" I didn't know what he was talking about until he pulled out his game book, and we sat down together and went over the game again. Reliving it was pretty entertaining for both of us, and we both decided that it was a good ploy.

Found another recent game promote to a knight. I played the blackside of the center counter and my opponent tried to switch to Blackmar Deimer but I was ready for that!

I've done to prevent stalemate, but other than that I have never needed to underpromote.

To promote to a knight to prevent stalemate is a valid attempt.  Did it work?

Did you win the game?

As  far as I remember, I promoted to a Knight only once, forking king nd queen. I cant remember the position.

Here is the example I was talking about earlier.  It was not a well played game, but - my desperate tactic put me back in the game and I ultimately won on resignation.

Harlem, and interest move in your game would of or might have been 7. Nc4

7. Nc4 seems interesting and somewhat un-natural.  I'm just learning the Ponziani,  so enlighten me if you can.

Bulge, thanks. In the game I let him have way too much counter play, taking chances as it were and very probably he could have won.
