One day, a man walked into the park with a chessboard under his arm. He sat down at a table and loudly declared, “Who dares challenge the greatest chess master of all time?”
An old pigeon waddled up and landed right on the board. The man laughed, shooed it away, and set up the pieces. But instead of leaving, the pigeon knocked over his knight with its beak and pushed a pawn forward.
The man frowned. “Fine. I’ll humor you.”
Two hours later, the pigeon had checkmated him three times. The crowd that had gathered started cheering and chanting, “All hail the bird!”
Humiliated, the man demanded a rematch. The pigeon calmly strutted across the board, pooped on the king, and flew away in victory.
Since that day, no one calls themselves the “greatest chess master” in that park—unless they’re a pigeon.
