King is the best piece if you cannot capture if it puts you in check with any other piece you have to look every where to see if it will be caught.

I change my mind it is the knight its capture is so interesting and it does not need to be in something path to capture it.

I like pawns and knights because pawns can attack quickly and easily dislodge pieces and knights because they can come out of nowhere to either checkmate or fork.
