It is believed that the term "Checkmate" comes from the Farsi (Iranian, formerly Persian language) words, "Shah Mah", meaning "The king is dead". I'm not sure that my spelling is correct. This may be an indication of the origins of chess.

yup. that check mate thingimajig is correct. straight from Wikipaedia. Shah Mah.

Who says many cooks can't make a good soup ?   Many cultures put in their ingredients and created a wonderful game that we know to be called chess...

But many cooks can't make a good soup.  Many can, but countless others can't.

The saying is that too many chefs spoil the broth.  It's not trying to say that colaborative efforts are inherently inferior, but someone must be manning the filter.

It's when everyone can add ingredients unchecked that you get overspiced soup.

It is exactly things like this that cause me to believe more and more in divine intervention and the desire of our creator to bestow his blessings upon us...we could still be playing dodgerock like they did in Scotland for so long...

Maybe there are many horrible board games that died during all those years. And maybe now there is not trace that they even existed!
