If you want to beat players who are rated more than you, the best time control that I suggest are faster time controls like bullet or blitz if you are good in these time controls. These time controls are better because your opponent, who is a better player than you will have some pressure on himself because of the time. If you are going to face the time pressure and you are losing then, all you have to do is 'Flagging', a method that can be used to give some more pressure on your opponents because of the clock. This way, they have to think more which leads to decreasing of their time on the clock. Thus, they will be timeout, or blunder or even stalemate you! Which is a great escape!
