You Lose If You Get Checked

Pretty simple: get checked and you lose. My friend and I analyzed this at our weeklies yesterday, and we seemed to come to the conclusion that white always wins.

But I'm stubborn. I think black can defend against this. Who knows: I'm not the best myself, so maybe some people are willing to analyze this.

Also, sorry if this was discussed before. I really do not follow the forums here anymore; I just came for some "theory." :p

JIC I can't double post:

Both sides seemed to play terrible moves. King out on move three?! Nc3 to open?! It seems like a game a 600 rating player matchup would play. No insult to you

If you read the title of the thread you're posting in, Ke7 is the only way to avoid losing by check.

I would suggest c6 as a pretty sound defense against Nc3-Nb5.

Doesn't seem to be any way black can draw this...

Another fun game is no capture--first person to capture a piece loses!

Not wrong but...

Ivandh: 1. Nc3 c6 doesn't work for black because after 2. Ne4 black has no way to avoid being checked as he can't move his king this move.

I think you guys have overlooked 5. Bf6+.

Was noted in my post.

After Nc3 d5 might be strong to prevent both Nd5 and Ne4 but then after Nb5 only Kd7 works and then Black shouldn't be able to hold for long or develop any sort of attack of his own. Just that one variation gives me the idea White should always win this game. Most variations are similar to that one is why.

I think White has a forced win for certain. I actually found one after 1. Nc3 e6. It might be interesting to try this with material odds, since the first move seems to be such an advantage.

Any faster forced checks?

Okay, here I found a forced check for White in all other lines:

And now I'm going to try to find a flaw in the b3 lines with Qc1, because otherwise it's faster than mine.
 I think I found one.

1. Nc3, c6!; defending and giving freedom to the black queen

Avatar of itchynscratchy

Vandarringa busted that one.

Doesn't Nc3 c6 lose by force after Ne4 threatening both Nd6 as Nf6 ?

Edit: Post #9 already said that

Nc3 isn't the way to go.

I think the way to play this is to defend the king in a relatively normal manner, just treat threats of check as checks themselves.

Anyone want to play me in an unrated game where the first check wins?

Avatar of TChosen1

Well I thought about SJFG's line to the best of my ability (probably a mistake somewhere)

As for Nc6...

The main issue is that after Qc1, black has 1 move to defend against that line since after d4 his moves past that seem forced.

7... bxd4 (8.cxd4 Qxd2 Black wins) and now white's the one trying to avoid check.

Hey guys I think I found a 6-turn forced win as white!

Perhaps a new rule is in order: Thou shalt not move those cursed knights?
