1. c4 d4? against the english?

I meant 1. c4 d5...  I have been playing the Scandivanivan lately against e4 so when my opponent played 1. c4 today I thought I would offer up my d pawn and see what structure followed. Here is the game!

 

 

I am trying to give up 1 minute bullet games and force myself to play longer time controls against higher rated opponents so I was very pleased at how this game turned out. 10 minutes + increment was pretty fun and not uncomfortably long.

White doesn't have to hold onto the pawn to gain an easy advantage here.

3. Nc3 Nxd5  4. e4 Nf6  5. d4 or similar.

Nice game as played though... very similar to the Icelandic gambit.

Well played. Personally I love it when people play d5 against me (I'm solely a c4 man), not sure white really gave it much thought. I would have then done horsey to c3 though and let black leave its queen in center. White seems to have made things rather complicated for itsself, that d3 pawn is a pain, and the main reason I'd never play what white did from move 2.

1. c4 d5?! 2. cxd5 and white simply has a 2-vs-1 central pawn majority, which is a good start towards gaining a significant opening advantage.

Best replies to the English are e5, c5 or Nf6.
