I learnt about the 7 move queen sacrifice checkmate that i included here...Is it a good tactic to be used in matches with higher level players?

5. Nxe5?? just blunders away a piece.

Your concept of the Legal checkmate needs work.
ManyacOfChess

But doesn't it eventually lead to checkmate anyway?

urk
5. Nxe5 Nxe5 and what are you doing? You just gave away a piece for nothing.

Well, 5. h3 is the better move where black must avoid Bh5 when the trap properly works

No, even after 5. h3 the trap does not properly work, although White ultimately ends up a clear pawn.

For example:
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 d6 4. Nc3 Bg4 5. h3 Bh5 6. Nxe5 Nxe5 7. Qxh5 Nxc4 8. Qb5+

Black bishop has to be on h5 to win pawn. No checkmate if Black plays correctly.

Thanks everyone for telling me how to work this out. It really helped. wink.png

Yes, as long as you can trick them. 0-0.png

If they retake on e4 with the knight it's game over for you. Don't play Nxe4.

TheGreatLlama

Yes, as I said 4 years ago h3 needs to be played first, and if Black responds Bh5 he is in genuine trouble. I can't recommend this way of playing though, it's premium hope chess.

Hey guys. Black knight should’ve taken white knight. It won’t be checkmate
TROOLLFACE

This trap does not always work. Everybody plays other things nowadays.

It's known as Legal's Mate, named after a late 18th century French player.

Jollification

This is Legal's Mate. This may work against some lower-level players (and is a solid opening to play against black), but a master will never fall for this.
