By no means am I a great player. I am ranked at about 800 at this site and I play chess just for fun. However, I just played a gem of a game against another player here that I wanted to share with people and have analyzed.

2. ... Nf6 guards the f7 square and puts your knight on a better square.  It's good policy to develop your pieces to control the center.  "A knight on the rim is dim."

8. ... Nxf7 makes a lot more sense.  Laughing  Then you are up more material.

You do have a good point about the first one. That move would have provided a better offense for me. However, for the second idea, doesn't that move make the same exchange after (8...Nxf7 9. Nxf7 Qxf7 10.Bxf7 Kxf7)? If in that sequence I moved 9...Rg8, it would work very well, but otherwise...

wowiezowie

7..Qxg5  if d4, Qxc1

also:

8..Nxf7 9. Bxf7, Kd1  wins the queen for a knight

While 13..Bb4 worked, it fails to c3 when black looses a piece... Better was Bd2 exploiting white's lack of development, and following up with the bishop check to stop white from castling.

Also:

A very pretty checkmate to be proud of.  :)

You mean 2 ...Nf6 I assume?

wiimac

Yeah, just move the knight to f6 and the game is postponed from going wacky :)

bastiaan

very nice mate. terrible to see players going all in for an (extended) scholars mate, glad you've avoided it.

Thanks! Also, the 8..Nxf7 9. Bxf7, Kd1 line would have worked a lot better, now that you mention it.

@bastiaan- so far in about 40 games I have played here, I have lost 4 or 5 by that mate :(

wiimac

Bastiaan have you ever played the Saragossa?

bad exchanges for both sides but incredible mate...should be more than 1400 rather than 800 if it wasn't for terrible errors from both

Zalmeth

elegant mate at the end - congrats
