Battling the annoying Modern Defense! Analysis #2

Well this was an interesting one. Pretty sloppy, but I did manage to see some advantages and capitalize on them, so i'm happy about that. However, I do not like these Modern Defense set-ups from black. Even from white, I've seen some 1. b3, 1. g3 stuff and it just makes my eyes roll. In any case, I know nothing about how to play against it. Just play principled.. Grab the center, develop, castle, blah blah blah. What i'd really like more is to understand "the nature of the position" as several people have so eloquently explained to me, but it seems harder for me to grasp than I'd like. But I hope to get some good feedback on this analysis. A win, sure, but I do have a heartbreaking loss to post tomorrow or the day after. It was a long game and the sadness of it has made it hard to get through. lol But until then, I wish you all the best vibes! And I hope you enjoy my analysis.

All the best to everyone!

Playing against the Modern Defense is a big topic. Here you chose the two knights variation.

This video should give you a better idea of the plans for both sides:

Those double fianchetto setups are not the best for black objectively but are quite tricky because they create a lot of threats and tactical opportunities for black.

I don't know what you mean by "Shimmy". As in dancing? Anyway you won this game because your opponent hung a Rook and then a Queen. 24.Bxa7 was a decent move in my opinion because it setup the chance to win quickly like you did. You saw the tactic that your opponent missed.

May I suggest, Pseudo Austrian attack. They are playing a passive opening so punish them,
