I gave up here. Was this the right decision? (my end game has a lot to be desired)

yes it is the right decision to resign here for black. after 1.bxa5, bxa5, white easily advances the pawn to get a queen and black has no counter

You did the right thing......because there is nothing that can be done to prevent white queening his a-pawn and hence i would say not to waste time, it was a logical decision to resign...

Besides, its nothing about your endgame skills. Its fair to say even Anand or Kasparov would also have lost from from this position :)

It looks like in the endgame you did the right thing by resigning, but in the middlegame you did the wrong thing to arrive at such an endgame.  So it's really your middlegame that leaves a lot to be desired, lol.  :D
