Brilliant Moves in New Game Analysis Report
hdb
what does that mean
I think you are asking Stockfish to guess what move a human would have found hard to find.
My impression is that it is some combination of being the only good move and appearing to risk material in the process. Stockfish is pretty good at the first one (Great move!!!) but pretty lousy at the second task (at what shallow depth does the move look so bad that it deserves a Brilliant because it is good at a deeper depth). I too have had two brilliant moves in a row. Both were moves I saw as the only good moves before I played the preceding move. While they only led to forced mate in like 15, I won back material almost instantly. I think most 1500 odd players would have seen them easily. So being called Brilliant didn't impress me much.
So basically you think I’m cheating too lol. Idk what stockfish you guys have but for one, when I use the analysis it gives me suggestion that are best, never great let alone brilliant. Two, brilliant moves aren’t that hard. Almost any variations of fried liver will grant you one. Also all the games I’ve posted in that thread with brilliant moves almost always have a blunder and accuracy less than 80. also just because your opponent can see the move doesnt change whether a move is brilliant or not. the reason it was a bad move at lower depth is because its only calculating the move you made a couple moves in adance whereas at greater depth it realizes what the purpose of the so called bad move was for. the fact of you saying your move being rated brilliat didnt impress you goes to show how easy it is and makes me wonder why you would think someone would need to use an engine to suggest brilliant moves.
In the old days I suspect the brilliant moves were the ones the engine could not find by itself. They were super rare and usually found in super complicated positions. After the move was revealed, the engine would change the best move/lines it initially chose. Most brilliant moves I found where in the endgame and just a lucky strike.
Nowadays, you sacrifice a piece to convert a winning attack and its always ”brilliant”. I came here after getting 2 brilliant moves in a blitz game and, sadly, found out they changed the criteria and I am the same old patzer.

why the heck is Qxc3 a brilliant move? I lose faith in this stupid engine
It deserves it well enough for the level of player - easily the best move and Black gets mate in 2 if White takes.
Hey, I've been very critical of their 'lets give everyone a medal' approach to this stuff. It's improved, but basically, that's what I think of it. It's "AI" by no stretch of the imagination...
Think of it as 'for fun' until it becomes something more than it is.
I belive a briliant move is a hard move to find but can change the course of the game dramaticly that are like move only gms can find most of time if they see it in a real game but also needs to be the best move but who knows maybe im wrong (idk if any1 else said anything simular i just scrolled down to say my opinion sry if someone said something simular)
A brilliant move is defined as a sacrifice which gives you a winning position...
Never are sacrifices classified as best moves... They are either brilliant if calculated properly or are mistakes and blunders if calculated incorrectly...

Correct and by that definition, the move in question above is 'brilliant'.
Brilliant moves are just good sacrifices. half the time a brilliant move isn't even the best move, but they are still pretty cool sometimes.
'Commentators' at high class tourneys online almost laugh sometimes at the !'s or ?'s....those are just psuedo AI, take 'em or leave 'em.
Hello, I am currently taking an advanced placement research course in High School. I have always enjoyed chess, and decided to make my main topic of research something within the impacts of technology on chess. I would like to get a few opinions if possible. Please be detailed if you can. My question is, "What makes a person more inclined to steer towards online chess, rather than otb chess, and vice versa" If any person can relay their opinion on otb chess vs online, and why, it would greatly help me out. Thanks
what thats npt even the right game
