RIP this thread. It had a very good concept, but has now, sadly, went the way of the Dodo.

If you want to "revive it" then try to solve the current puzzle currently posted in #340 (14 Official Puzzle I think it is). It is already about half-way correctly solved, but no one has given the solution to the critical move 2...Kc3. How should White continue from here?

Posting new puzzles does take a lot of work (more so the formatting of the answers in a professional manner with sidelines and player comments), but I am willing to do it if people enjoy it.

So far, the "correct solution" is 1. Rd4+ Kxd4 2. Nd6 Kc3 but then the puzzle is currently uncompleted; how should White best continue? happy.png

I think after :

1.Rd4+!; Kxd4

2.Nd6; Kc3

3.Ne4+!; Kxb4

4.Nd2 the b pawn is blocked and whites are winning.

Can we get a PGN board to see the idea cz it's a bit confusing with the moves

Avatar of chamo2074

You go page 17, you click on ''analysis" buttom on the puzzle then you can move the pieces to analyse.

If after 4.Nd2; Kc3

5.f5; Kd4 6.f6 and the f pawn is too fast.

Kf6 is illegal I think after Nd2

So wait let me send what happens if black tries to promote the pawn:

This obviously doesn't work

Avatar of chamo2074

What if black tries to stop our pawn:

What do you think did I miss a strong black move?

What if the king doesn't take the b4 pawn?

Avatar of kJDG15

No it's solved. Thank to the extra knight, zugzang is easy to create to force the promotion of the f pawn.

Nd2 anyway to block the b2 pawn.

Yes, but what if black doesn't capture the sacrificed material?

Then 1.Rd4+; Ke6 2.Rd1 then Rb1-b2 and easy win.
