Can someone explain this puzzle

Position is (FEN) 4k3/5R1K/6P1/1r6/3n3P/8/8/8 w The puzzle correct move is set to be g7, leaving the white rock hanging. Black continues with ... Rh5+, Kg6 Rh6+, Kxh6 Kxf7, Kh7 promoting the white pawn on the next move. However I am failing to understand why the forced sequence Rf8+ Kxf8, g7+ with promotion on next move is considered wrong. In my view there are plenty of fork options that would allow to capture both the black knight and then the rock. Am I missing something that allows the black to keep the material?

Kxf8 isn't forced. Ke7 can be played.
