Control of d5 or e4

In one of the lessons on Chess Mentor, it showed the match Fischer-Gadia, Mar del Plata 1960, and explained and showed how Mr. Fischer gained control of the d5 square and used it to his advantage.  I thought this was pretty cool, so I tried it on Chess Titans on my computer and did really well.  (The difficulty setting is on level 4.)  I thought I would try it on live chess, and the first game I also did well.  BUT, the next two games I got killed!!!  Just dominated right out of the gates.

Me Playing white

1.c4  e5

2.e4  Qh4

3.Nc3  Bc5

4.Nf3  Qxf2#

Then the next game, same opponent,

Me playing black

1.e4 e5

2.Qf3 d6

3.Bc4 f6

4.Qb3 Nh6

5.d3 Nc6

6.Bxh6 gxh6

7.Bf7+Kd7

I realize that I'm really new at tactics and strategies, basically at white belt level, but did not expect this.

Any ideas to help develope the strategy of controlling d5 or e4 without this happing?

I'm new at posting and wasn't too sure about how to post the actual board and games/moves here, which is a really cool feature.  Sorry.

Thanks.

No disrespect at all.  After all I am just learning.  Although sometimes we try to fly before we can run, walk, or even stand.  We want to so badly to fly, but have got to get hold of the basics first.  You are very correct in saying that.  I should know as it took me 5 years to make it to the level of black belt.

On 3...f6, I was going ahead and completing the line of pawns only realizing later that yes, I should have played Nf6.  You are right in Kd7 was just a quick move that was a fatal blunder.  I see now that Ke7 would have definitely been a better choice.  Thanks for the help in those.

Now from me...no disrespect from this end either, but please explain what you meant by "These tatical errors are way below your ability."

I do feel that Chess Mentor is a over my head sometimes, in some of the lessons.  Being new at this game, I'm not sure where to actually start to learn the basics, or what would actually be deemed to much for me at this point.  Although I feel I'm catching on pretty quick, is there a  tool on Chess.com to help me learn basic strategy, tactics, etc?

Thanks again.

Cool!!  Thanks for the advice.

My correspondence rating is ok, but my "blitz" rating is much lower.  You're right in that I need to take more time to think about his moves as well as my own.  Which I am picking up on somewhat.  In the two sample games I posted, my opponents quick queen responses gets me nervous in a hurry.  Which leads me to make hasty moves and nasty, stupid mistakes.  I have found that some of these people tend to rely to heavily on their queen, and not even developing their other pieces.  Once they have lost their main weapon, they aren't quite sure how to operate without it.

Thanks again.
