Could promotion have been prevented?

This is a position from a game I played a few days ago.  I was white, I had just played Re1 (from f1) and would eventually promote the pawn and win the game.  My computer's analysis after the fact insists that Re1 gave my opponent a draw if he played correctly from there.  I don't see how and it wasn't clear enough, so I ask you guys.

With black to move, can black prevent the pawn from promoting? If so, can he do it without making a losing material sacrifice?

Just taking a glance at it, taking the rook off of the f-file allows the black king to fight the advanced white pawn and then black can turn his attention to the queenside majority.

After something like ...Rd2, how do you intend to make progress?

Ke8, e7, Kf8, e8.  I don't see where he has a move that would stop any of those.

The computer seemed to think I would play Kf8 immediately, followed by ... Rd8+, Ke7, Rd2 and repeat the whole cycle again.

Um, yeah, what program were you using, and how long did you give it? Giving it a slightly closer look, I didn't see how promotion could be stopped. When I checked with my engine, it agreed pretty quickly. When you input Ke8 (instead of f8), what does it say?
