Crazy people!

I have noticed that being 'crazy' is a common stereotype with chess players. Now I don't mean off the wall talking to my chair over a nice dinner crazy, but a little different then the norm. I'd like to know other peoples opinions on whether this  started because of Bobby Fischer and his outlandish ways or has been ingrained in chess culture since it was first started.

I'm not crazy. I don't think i've heard that stereotype before. I'm guessing what you heard was linked with Fischer.

That's easy for you to say. Crazy people don't think they're crazy. So tell me something, do you think you're crazy?

I see you sort of answered my question even before i posted it. Though the difference here is that you used the pronoun "we." By attempting to make everybody the same as you proves that everybody is not, thereby isolating yourself as the crazy person. Congratulations. You are now one of us! (Except that i'm not crazy.)

In my nearly 49 years of life I don't believe I have ever met a single human being who wasn't crazy. Some are more crazy than others, but it's only a matter of magnitude.

Morphy was bit off, too, according to what I've read.  Maybe not Fischer crazy, but crazy nonetheless.  I think America can claim the best crazy chessplayers of all time.

Other masters of the past have has their quirks also, but I'm not recalling their names as much as these two.
