Draws

Ever notice how sometimes people seem less willing to accept a draw than they are to resign?  Have lower rated players always been against draws or is it a recent thing?  Some people get annoyed when someone refuses to resign, but what bothers me more is when they refuse to accept a draw in an obviously drawn position.  Take this example from my most recent draw.  To me it seems like a dead draw since there is nothing either side can do to win pawns or advance them.  They refuse a few draw offers, until offering one themself.

Here is a classic draw that I've ran into a few times, but the other person never accepts.  It's like they think they will promote the pawn.

Here is an example from a game I won on time because they wouldn't accept a draw.

This sort of thing has also happened, yet they refused to accept a draw, so it had to be forced.

How many of us have seen this sort of position and the other player refuses to accept draws, making you force it through repetition?  Sure, white has an obvious advantage here, but it doesn't make any difference.

In the last example, who "won" the game?  Obviously it's 1/2-1/2, but if you were black, wouldn't you feel satisfaction while white is upset about the result?

It's good you are recognizing these positions. It is a mark of your progress.
