 what do you think about this continuation: 3.h6!(I'm threating to mate 4.Qh5 Qh4 5.Qxh4#) Rxh6 4.Qh1 Kg4 5.Qxh6 dxe3 6.Kg2 dxf2 7.Rh1 f1Q 8.Rxf1 and I think white is winning

Cool I'm loving the fact that all this contention and discussion is over a game played by little old me...

tommytomato

Best bet is submit a draw and have an early night.

TwoMove

Ok you have given up on 2...Rxp, don't know what your 3. QxR QxQ was all about?!

In your last line, after 2...Rh8 instead of 3.Qh1ch, someone as already mentioned 3.Rd3 as better keeping control of g4, so you can try find a defence in that line. See for example chessplayerforlife's post above.

TwoMove

There is also macand's line 2...Rh8 3.h6, threatening Qh5 mate  3...Rxp etc. So think quite a lot of evidence white is winning.

3.h6! Rxh6!

chessplayerforlife

I mean no checkmate

Then prove it, and don't let black make silly moves which don't prevent the "forced" (as you claimed) checkmate. What if the queen takes the queen at h4, perhaps you should continue from there and show us how to force the mate.

I'm not necessarily trying to prove that I'm right, but very interested in learning how to force a checkmate from the position.

EDIT: A little example:

Qh1 is a blunder!

chessplayerforlife

Rd3!

Rixo

The winning line is definitely 1.Qf3+ Kh3 2.h5!

But don't blame yourself, it was hard to find. Fritz found a mate in 21 !!

Thanks for sharing.

8... Rb8! 9.b3! (Rh1?? Rxb2+)

PYL

Well Jelleg you might be right but your moves do not follow what murderotica showed in his diagram. The move after Rh8 is Rd3. Then Rf8 might be what you are suggesting. Then white would play Qe2

if 4 ...Rf4 then 5. f3 Rxf3 6. Qxf3  Rb8 7. Rd2  Rxb2 8. Rxb2  dxc3 9. Rh2#

if 4 ... Be6 then 5. f4 Rxf4 6. gxf4+ Kh4 7.Qh2+ Kg4 8. Qh3+ Kxf4 9.Qf3#

if 4 ...Nb4 then 5. cxb4 Rg8 6. f4  Rxg3+ 7. Qg2+  Kh4 8. Rxg3  Kxh5 9. Rg5+ Kh6 10. Qh2+ Bh3 11. Qxh3#

I saw this weird version on a chess engine :D

I can't seem to see any flaws to his variation but I'm not a very good players so I looked up on a chess engine and it seems no matter what you do it's a forced mate.

I'm curious about whoever said Fritz found a mate in21? Was that after countless hours of calculation?

I can't say I blame you for taking the draw I would quite lekely have done the same. Some of those variations are hard to calculate sometimes. I don't think I would have ever seen h5 being a good move after Qf3+ :D. At least you could get a draw out of it!

But instead of playing 3.Rd3 can white play:

3.h6!? Rxh6 4.Qh1+ Kg4 5.Qxh6 exd3 6.Kg2 exf2 7.Rh1 f1Q+ 8.Rxf1 and after 9.Rf6 or 9.Rh1 I think this mating net should lead to victory for white.

Qf3 and G4! # you totally missed this move.. :P

in summary, draw.

chessplayerforlife

1.Qf3+ Kh6 2.h5! Rd6! 3.h6!! Rxh6 4.Qh1+ Kg4 5.Qxh6 dxe3 6.Kg2! exf2 7.Rf1 f1=Q+ 8.Rxf1

 I do not agree!

chessplayerforlife

Rd6 is not a draw

chessplayerforlife

Again: 1.Qf3+ Kh6 2.h5! Rd6! 3.h6!! Rxh6 4.Qh1+ Kg4 5.Qxh6 dxe3 6.Kg2! exf2 7.Rf1 f1=Q+ 8.Rxf1

ErrantDeeds

It's taken 82 posts for people to not agree that there was a checkmate. Thanks to various analysis on this thread, I now do believe that a mate was there, but there is no way I would have found it. The draw was fair.
