Discovery breakthrough!!!Good or bad?
I am very proud of this game because a lot of thought went into the execution of my plan...I have been playing chess for 2 years now, and I really feel ready to improve. This is why I post the forums, to get comments from great players so I can learn from my weaknesses and mistakes, etc. It would make my day if someone evaluates my playing, and gives advice. Thank you all so much!
Cheers!
James
Well played, some of your tactics were very finely thought out. A win against Hypocrism is pretty good too, he's a bruiser.
I've gotta say that I didn't really understand the convoluted Knight manoeuvres
but that's nothing new, I'm always lost in closed positions.
Which knight moves specifically? I can explain the reason for the moves, and maybe you can evaluate my thought process? Thank you so much for your time
Well, white's better move was 32. Rf1 and if 32. ... g3 33. Qd1 with threats of Qf3 or Qg4 attackin black King
I don't really think you got enough compensation for the sacrificed bishop. After 32.Rf1 there isn't enough activity to give compensation. He will soon capture the weak b7 and c5 pawn to give him a good game. Other than that, a beautiful game!!
Yes...properly put. Not as much compensation as I had hoped. Do you think a draw is possible if white does not blunder?
I'd like some feedback on my play in this game too - I have a lot of trouble against the king's indian and I was surprised I help out as long as I could! Of course the pawn loss was a tactical oversight (it was after 40 mins of playing and normally I take a break at 30 mins to get a drink), but apart from that I felt like I was getting into an inferior position early on.
Also just for information's sake, the order was a typical King's Indian, not modern defense. I would have no idea where to go after ...g6!
Let me post the thoughts on the game from my side of the board as well.
wouldn t have 19..Qb4 held on being up a piece pretty well?
(didn t take a real proper look though)
good game
Yes...this is what I evaluated at 17. Qxa5. I saw that taking the pawn would leave my queen open for discovery attack, however, I could not find any discovery.
So I took the pawn because I was afraid of losing my c pawn, then he could have a potential passer. All white would have to do is take by b pawn, which could be easy because he has a half file which can create pressure on my b pawn. So I played bold...and I think it payed off!
Your evaluation helped me very much! Honestly, I never even considered playing 10.Re8 to undermine the center...I was too focused on playing the wings. I wanted to avoid a center breakthrough because I loved how his white bishop was trapped by his white center pawns.
I learned a lot from this game and lesson...any additional comments or analysis would be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone!
James
I saw 19. Qb4, but when calculating I saw the queen threatened and losing the queen...so I retreat. It was a miscalculation for me.
I am very glad Hypo responded...thank you for the analysis I really learned a lot.
What is funny is that I never considered the accelerated dragon that you spoke of (c xd)...I would of not played this in the game because I did not consider it an option. I have not studied this opening, only played it. This is great information...I will have to play that variation sometime. Great analysis so far....keep it comin guys!
I don't know that taking the pawn with 27. ... Nxe4+ is the best move. Even more menacing, I think, is 27. ...Nf5+ 28. Kg1 Ne6 29. Q moves Qg3 threatening mate with a menacing attacking position. The white bishop will not be able to defend at f3 or f1, so White's queen will be tied to the 2nd rank on its 29th move. Anyone care to examine the follow-up?
Yes! I just did some follow up...I do not see any good moves for white in this position you are talking about. It looks like white should resign if this is played. Can someone confirm this conclusion!

knew I had some attack there somehow!
o.k...here is my winning sequence.
27. Kxh2 Nf5+
28. Kg1 Ne3
29.Qb2 Qg3!
30. Bd3 Rf2!!
