Is pool every day life?

It's made me more analytic, which is helpful in school / problem solving.

For instance, if I do _____ then _____ will result.

No, not so far.

I dunno.  I think it helps creative and logical thinking.  I also think you could get lost in it and not have a life outside of chess.

I think playing OTB chess trains concentration skills.

Sorry to ask, but what is OTB chess? Over The Board - right? Then, can't the live chess be also considered as equivalent to OTB? I think so.

I would say a yes to chess on that. Since playing every day, I have learned greater patience with other things in my life, and learned to think and plan ahead, and organize myself better. Since not worrying about losing anymore, I have come to enjoy chess more. It does help with focus and patience, and most certainly problem solving.

Except maybe you learned all those things somewhere else, and a side effect is that that has helped your chess play.

Again I have to ask it of these types of forums:  why are chess players forever asking whether chess has some practical benefit, or is useful in other spheres, or why do we do it? (etc etc).  Nothing implies the game's uselessness more than this barrage of doubting.

yes, but faith without doubt is dead faith.

A friend of mine is studying to upgrade his Commercial Marine Captain Ticket to 500tonnes.  I've been playing for many years while he just started getting into chess about a year ago.

He told me the other day that he has been playing a couple games of online chess in the evenings just before studying.  He said he finds that it fires up his brain and he has a better time studying and gets more accomplished.  I thought that was pretty interesting.

Yes, chess is good in everyday life, it got me out of the house at least once a week, sometimes more often.
