I'm assuming the rook is on c1 and its white's move.
The main reason that Stockfish seems to dislike rc2 is that it gives black time for a tactical partial solution to activating his pieces, with a5.
I dont know how long you gave Stockfish, or how powerful your PC is, but my Stockfish likes rfe1, bb1 or e4 right away. At depth 24, my Stockfish is saying +1.4 for rfd1, vs +1.7 for immediate e4, +1.8 for rfe1 and gives bb1 a +2.0.
Rfd1 looks besides the point, so I'm wondering if your Stockfish is set wrong or something.
In this position stockfish rates Rc2 (ready to double rooks) way down the list, below rfe1 & rfd1. My thought process was to pile on the pressure on c6 & c7. Why is doubling the rooks wrong? I generally double rooks in this kind of position. Anyone any pointers on when to double rooks & when to target multiple files like in this instance?
Thanks
