Dropped 100 points in rating in 24 hours

I'm sorry that happened to you. I dropped 53 points in my puzzle rating. It feels really bad because you keep working to get back up, and end up dropping another 14 points. : (

A while ago I was at my highest 1604, and the very next day I dropped to 1450.

All psychological cal because I kept thinking “I should win against these low 1500 people because I was 1600” but I conveniently forgot that I needed to think against those people. Still clawing my way back up there.

I love reading people's old and embarrassingly outdated comments lol

OHHHH MY GOD NOOOOOOOOO

Oh gosh - I still got many games notated by hand from when I was like 1000-ish! Yikes! It took so long to record and annotate that I don't think I can throw them out, but it is tough to look them over now...

I've dropped a considerable amount as well.I am watching quite a few chess videos(Gotham Chess etc) and figure if I want to get better,I simply have to try out the techniques demonstrated.....

It's not something I feel i can pick up quickly.Rather, going through the losses and then analyzing what went wrong....Which is quite a lot.-happy.png

I lost 300 points within three days in 3 min blitz. I don't know why, but sometimes I cannot play (and I play nevertheless). Yes, I should play longer games but online I dont have the patience for 30 min or more. -- One problem I see, is the concentration on the rating. For example in tactics I have 2400! But what is the result? I will never do one single puzzle. The danger is too high thatr I will lose the first one and lose 10 ponts and then I will try to regain the points and will make tactics the half night and at the end I will have a rating maybe of 1800. So I will never, never, never reopen Pandora's box. The same with the blitz rating. To be honest, I dont like blitz, I hate it even. But I want back my ponts. If I had 1700 again, I would never make a single blitz again. Stupid, is'nt it?

I told myself I’d stop playing blitz and focus on rapid after I hit 2000. I told myself the same lie at 2100. And at 2200. Now I’m saying if I could be 2300 I’d be happy.

it doesn’t work unfortunately

I think it's best to stop worrying and just try to enjoy the games, while trying to learn from our losses.

what else can u expect in a website full of cheaters and nobody does anything about it?

well, unless you are nakamura or levy, or botez, only then, bans take action

I disagree. Cheaters make up a very low percentage of the chess games I encounter. When I drop a ton, then it is because of tilt or personal things like lack of sleep or missing breakfast.

btw, people almost brag about how much they tilt in one sitting; like a pity-party or something. This is why I implement a stop-loss system. This way I don't tilt too much if I'm disciplined enough to follow my own guidelines. When I drop a lot (recovering from one such drop in my rapid rating now), it is usually because of a few bad sessions back to back - not one sitting where I keep playing. For obvious reasons, bullet/blitz ratings are more volatile, but that is just part of playing those time controls - embrace it, or at least put up with it.

If it wasn't for a stop-loss method in place, I could easily tilt a bunch of points, but I've learned my lesson after many times of crashing way more than necessary.

Ignore your rating, and try to convince yourself that ratings are just stupid numbers.
