Dull french exchange draw

For this game, I was able to prepare a little bit because I knew I would be paired with my opponent (this is a quad; I know who I'll be playing next week as well). I studied the french exchange with black because I know he always plays it with white. Although this was a g/90 quad, we played our moves relatively quickly and we both had about an hour left on the clock when we agreed to the draw.  Anyway, I am not going to provide any analysis for this game-the engine says the position was dead even the entire game.

You both did the typical mistake that most do in French exchange:

If you want to play French defense better spend some time studying some games or this will happen every time.

Yeah... The result may have been decisive if I kept heavy pieces rather than trade them. still , I think I played the knight endgame well (never gave him an advantage!)

As black, I like recapturing with the queen on move 3 in the French Exchange. Not the best move for sure; but it almost always surprises my opponents and unbalances the game from the start.

But you never tried to win.It was a passive "going for a draw game" from start to end.And since your opponent was no better player it was eventually a draw. Why not play more energetically? Why not play for the win?

How would I play for a win?

Some combination of Bd6 Ne7 Nbc6 Bg4/Bf5 Qd7 0-0-0 and attack the white kingside is an ambitious way to play for black.
