I think it's safe to say that yes, it was a misprint and gxf3 was played. It's the only thing that makes sense... The White king is in check and there are only 2 legal moves on the board. And this is the only way black can play Qg6+.
fxg3 would be illegal even if black HAD something on g3, since that pawn is pinned by the bishop.
