English opening, interesting game

e5 strikes me as probably being the best response to the c4 English opening, allowing black to capture the center before white, however transposing into the Indian Defence probably would have been better for me as I am much better versed at it.
I would say I lost to good tactical playing of him, my own mistakes, lack of knowledge of the opening and that I didn't recognize his lethal mating attack.
Ideas?
