what can i improve on? Feel like letting the rook into my camp was a blunder... dont agree with what a lot of the things the computer analysis had to say, especially how it said the caro kann was an inaccuracy.

i was black btw.

Stopping to use the computer analysis this way is a first step. If you just passively use it, you will not progress. You need to analyse first by yourself, then you can run the computer to check for blunders. And eventually, sometimes (rarely) the computer is just wrong...

4...Bg4 looks slightly better to me. After 4...Bf5 5.d4 the bishop is not doing much on f5. Still largely playable though.

8...Be7 feels better to me, but I have no rational reason to offer.

9...h6 loses time for nothing.

10...b6 ? : you lack a plan. Letting the white knight go on c5 is no big deal. In that kind of positions, the plan is a minority attack.

I disagree with the comp at 13, but I agree at 18.

The comp's sideline at 21.Rxb5 is at best laughable. That move is totally playable ; White will lose the b2 pawn but keeps a very small edge.

download a free computer program, the online one is weak and gives odd results and its opening book is scrambled or damaged or something.

I have a bought one so I am not sure what the best freebie is right now.  Generally the freebies can import the free engines, so you can get a quite good free setup.

Anyways, the issue is more on the human side than on the computer side.

Agreed.

It was a strong game until around move 24, after that white makes one too many mistakes with the pawns and then finally gets forked.  Before that white had a nice passed pawn --- the idea here is probably to trade away the dangerous knights, drag the king into the fight, and try to win the pawn / rook game by forcing the B pawn and picking up stray pawns while black is tied up keeping B from going home.  The tricky part is getting that knight trade.

Just wanted to advice you on one point:

IF you decide to get some top notch software, be very careful about downloading it from torrent sites. Without debating the (il)legitimacy of downloading from torrent sites, I just want to say that downloading expensive and popular software from torrent sites is an almost certain way for your computer to get infected by viruses or spy-/malware - even if you scan whatever you download before installing it. "A friend of mine" has learned that lesson and won't do it again. Wink

I wouldn't know, you'd have to ask that friend of mine. Innocent

White was done after you played Nxc3 forcing him to move the rook so you could capture Rxb2.

White's c3 was a bit passive.  Establishing an idea pawn center is good, but the goal needs to be realistic.  Also you should have moved the king knight first to kingside castle that much faster.  After 6.Be3,Bxe3 you help him improve his position, 6...Bg6 looks better to me because it is well supported watching over that diagonal maintaining the tension, and if white trades bishops (unlikely) then you'd have an open h-file.
