The player playing Black was playing a Hippo Set up.

The Hippo Set up is very good against 2 pawn center set ups like OP did. A better way of playing for White is a 3 pawn center set up.

True, as a rule of a thumb against the hippo white should opt for a d4/e4/f4 center, when the break f4-f5 is a Damocles sword.

But even like played in the game, white was winning easily on multiple instances.

C4 - D4 - E4

With a C5 break

or

D4 - E4 - F4

With a F5 break

You don’t want Black to lock up the position which is what they are planning to do.
