Freeware against commercial chess software: Arena 3.5.1 vs Chessbase Fritz 17

Alemor64

That's incredible! Arena chess 3.5.1 is much better than Chessbase Fritz 17 for engines vs engines tournaments. You can freely upgrade / remove / change every engine and parameter without losing all previous data. And freeware Stockfish and derivates are much stronger than all engines sold by Chessbase. Few open source developers agaist a 30 years old historical manifacturer that never innovates (Fat Fritz 1.2 is copied and hosted by LC0, Fat Fritz 2.0 NNUE by Albert Silver, is only one more Stockfish 12 GPL 3.0 derivate but Chessbase doesn't release source code, so it is a rip-off)

34 BEST ENGINES - SuperBlitz 34 3 mins + 3 secs

4 CPUs on Windows 10 ARM64 under Parallels Desktop 16.3 M1

Most Stockfish derivates are better than the original, but ONLY open sources are useful to improve all top engines on all OSs.  Dragon 2 by Komodo, Igel 3.0.5 Neon NNUE and Fat Fritz 2.1 (in Stockfish 13 210426) are new entries.

Note: differenty from all major rating lists, this blitz considers only 500 games, but it is continuously and quickly updated, giving the ranking of the TOP 32 chess engines latest versions.

Fat Fritz 1.2 bias, Fritz 17 64 bit, Deep Hiarcs 14 WCSC x64, Deep Shredder 13 x64, Gogobello 3.0,  Nemorino 6.0 Patch 1 NNUE x64, Minic 3.0.6 x64, Fitzbo 2 x64, Laser 1.7 popcnt x64, Amoeba 3.2 x64,  Gull 3 x64 , Booot 6.5, Texel64 1.08, Schooner 2.2 x64 sse3, Defenchess 2.3, Marvin 5.0 x64, Winter 0.8, Ninvana 2.5 and Mayhem 3.9 are out of Top 34.

FAMOUS RATING LISTS

The RubiChess1.9 should be update to 2.0 version, just released 3 days ago.

Alemor64

Thanks jjlai1111  - Just updated with RubiChess 2.0 NNUE results. If you know the link of other strong engines just tell me and I'll add to Arena happy.png

And with another update Igel already released 2.9.0 on December 26 2020. It's about 200 elo stronger than this version.

Alemor64

Yes I know about Igel 2.90 NNUE , but It Is only AVX2 or BM2 and my system supports  Popcnt SSE3 or SSE4. If you find this version, please tell me and I will add It to Arena.

jjlai1111

ok

Alemor64

Just updated the table. KillFish has won the only game lost by the latest Stockfish until now!

Engine tournament continues with semi-blitz. If you have suggestions, they are appreciated. I'll countinuosly add updated / new engines to the preliminary blitz.

jjlai1111

how about the new MCTS engine: Ceres?

jjlai1111

and make sure the leela version is 27.0-rc1, if not then update it, thanks!

Alemor64

OK, I search the links of the executables for the next session starting from blitz. I have selected the very best engines, because they are all very close in ranking. I have updated the semi-blitz table with  final results (Zeus 11 is the winner) and soon I'll start the Long Time Tournament with 8 engines. I have also tried to compile LC0 natively for Apple Silicon M1 (so, directly on Mac, I could use  8 CPU and it is 3 times faster) but it doesn't work until now.

jjlai1111

ok, and no way! Chessbase just released the FAT FRITZ 2.0 !!! 1 hour ago!!!

Alemor64

Thank you! I'll add it togheter with Ceres to the new qualification blitz.

The "giant manifacturer" (sic) has like 10 employees, as far as I know happy.png.

Alemor64

Hi Sred! Changed "giant" to "historical" happy.png . I really hope that Fat Fritz 2.0 will become the new leader because, since the retirement of Frans Morsch, Fritz has not been improved greatly by Gyula Horváth, Vasik Rajlich and Frank Schneider. Same for the interface: I have used Fritz 17 of a friend at the chessclub for the preliminary blitz, and it's almost identical to Fritz 8 that I have bought in 2003!! They could publish Fritz and Chessbase also for Mac and, why not? Linux, to increase sales. Since I have switched to mac, I have used Winboard, xboard and recently Arena. And now I've discovered BanksiaGui (for Windows, Mac and Linux) that's even better especially regarding engines and tournaments management, but also for the GUI, very bizarre but completely re-configurable. I 'll use it for next tournament, when all best engines will be natively compiled for Silicon M1.  That's the strenght of open source. Stockfish has been continuosly inproved in ten years  by very skilled programmers, sharing their knowledge for free!  Now also Chessbase has discovered the potential of open source and sells an engine based on it and Leela Chess Zero. I don't know if it is possible but, If open source programmers are allowed to modify it, Fat Fritz 3.0 will be incredible (and maybe also for Mac and Linux)

My results are similar to this list.. but it lacks of derivates. Courtesy of ComputerChess.org

jjlai1111 Ceres doesn't work on my system, like Igel 2.9.0 and Pedone 3.0. I need a version for popcnt, sse3 or sse41. I have told about Fat Fritz  2.0 to my friends at the chess club that have a PC (it is not upgradable from Fritz 17) ... but Stockfish 2021 (and derivates are already stronger)  happy.png
