How could I've had more chances?

Hello, again!

I just played a game against a much higher rated player, which I unsurprisingly lost.

I'm not sad, though, due to the rating difference, but I'd like you guys to help me analysing this game.

I mean, I know I blundered, so I could I've had more chances or how could I've delayed the inevitable checkmate? Or even win the game, because I want to be at the same level as these guys!

I tried to adjust my game to the way my opponent played, yet I could never take control of the game - or even think of doing it... I somehow felt my pieces were stuck, and the only thing I could do was responding to his moves powerlessly...

Here is the game (I was playing white):

Thanks!

On move 3, it would have been better to take his f5 pawn, rather than defending it (playing passively.

His 4. Qe7 was a major blunder. You could have played Qh5 check, forcing pawn to g6 (Kd8, Nf7, forking king and rook). After g6, Nxg6, and hes in a lot of trouble.

If their f7/f2 pawn is gone, always look for potential tactics involving that check. Dont check for no reason other than to check, but in that situation in the opening, theres often a lot of tactics.

Qh5+ on move 8 is pretty crushing as well
