after 1.Qc5 a6 2.a4 bxa4 3.Nc4 Rd7, what should white do

Black is in real disadvantage in this one. White can now play 4.d6

bangalore2

What does b2 mean?

And about the position...

Qc5. Bf8 seems better, because of

a4. bxa4

Nc4. Now R6d7 doesn't allow d6, so maybe instead...

3. Qa5. a3

bxa3 (if Qx, Qb7) R6d7 (Best I could find)

a4. Qg5(against best I could find)

Qc3. cxd5 and the danger has passed, I think.

bangalore2

After 6.Nd5 in the 3...Rxf1 variation, 6...Bd8 seems to be better, as it stops Nf6, so

7. cxd8 Rxd8

8. Rc7 a6

Doesn't lose a pawn, though White is better. I don't think he wins with best play, though.

bangalore2

OK, let's try

6....Bg5

Then 7. f4 exf4

8.gxf4 Bd8

Then 9. Ke2 a6, and I can't see a win of a pawn, or

9. cxd8 Rxd8

10. Rc7 and a6 again seems to defend all the pawns.

bangalore2

I don't understand the Rc7/e5 part. Nf6 Kg7

e5 h5

Then if Rc7, Rd1

So maybe Ke2 then b4?

bangalore2

Ya, White moves his king up and eats pawns.

bangalore2

Wait, what about the opp.B+N in post 99? I think that might be a draw after say..Nd4.

again, wishful thinking

you keep assuming white has to play moves that he really doesnt need to play. Black is in a totally passive and useless position with no chance of counterplay, and yes im sure pawns are doomed

Interesting! But why not 7. cxd (Q)+ Rxd8 8. Rc7? That looks like a powerful rook to me

AKAL1

Because he can do that any time. Activate the king, because you can

bangalore2

How can Black avoid losing two pawns though?

bangalore2

Analysis on 99:

..Nd4

Bc4. Kg7

b4. f5

exf. Nxf5

Nd5. Bg5

Kf1. Ne7

Nc7 Bc1.

a4 Nc8

b5 Nd6

Bd5 Bd2

bangalore2

What about 11. Ke2 in the variation leading to the position?
