I was analyzing some games, and I am thinking that maybe the way the analysis tab doesn't work the way I thought it did.
I understand that the positive numbers are in favor of white and the negatives are in favor of black.
I would have thought that the number it shows you is what you might remain at for many moves if you take the best line you can and then your opponent also takes all the best lines they can, however after playing out some moves, I took a move that was +5 for white, then taking what the engine says are the best moves within 2-3 moves all of the sudden every line it shows is really positive for black except for 1 that is even.
Is it that once the next move is made it goes 1 more depth and that when it does that everything can change? I thought the idea is the reason a move is good is because it calculated all the best moves for white/black to make depending on the next moves that can be made so I would think in 2-3 moves it shouldn't swing so much.
Can anyone explain this to me?
Thanks
If you don't let it analyze deep enough, then you can get results like that. Going to a depth of 20+ is going to minimize that from happening, though in some complex positions, engines can still have issues.
