just curious if you were given this puzzle with the only explanation being 'white to move' would you look for a checkmate or just look for a way to win material??
i shared this with some noobs i know (100-200 rating) and they kept trying to look for a way to nab the queen

It's mate in 2, not mate in 1, because the black queen can block by going to d6. Then after Bxd6 it's mate.

you're right. the bishop is pinned so it can't take the queen. the queen is also pinned so this is the only solution
