Kramnik once missed a mate in one.  It happens.

Avatar of Purslow89

I mean, at least it happened to him in a blitz game and not a daily game, right?

Avatar of Seemoh

oh what a shame still I am not 1600 rating neither in Blitz nor in Daily.

Avatar of Purslow89

Fair point but 75 rating points isn't the difference between seeing and missing mates in one. We all make mistakes.
I'm just pointing out how silly your post is to question your opponents rating. He obviously has that rating for a reason. Your opponent made a bad mistake, we all do it. You are either a) gloating, or b) criticising. Either way, I don't really see the point.

Anyway Seemoh, I didn't want to turn this into a Whose Checkmate Was Worse contest, I've made far worse mistakes than both of those examples. The point, which you might be missing, is that mistakes happen regardless of your rating.

everybody makes mistakes. It's not nice imply that your opponent is a fraud just because he messed up

This monster will never do such silly mistake.

That is why this monster is 3500 while most human are 1500.

Avatar of MGleason

Most humans are 800-1400.

It's just a regular blunder, no need to name and shame. We're not GMs after all.

In blitz? Yes. It happens. I once watched a master get mated by a 1400 rated player because he missed that after Qc6 the opponents queen and bishop were both on the long diagonal. Qg2 mate, Qh1 was also mate. That was a standard time control and neither player was in time trouble. It can happen to anyone, at any time control, especially a shorter time control like blitz.

Both games remind me how important the f3/f6 knights are.

Playing white is worth about 30 or so ratings pts, so what's the big deal about winning?

My current blitz says on average I win vs 1576, while I lose vs 1611. That's 35 pts difference. So what's the big deal about winning against what is really only +40pts?

If I'm tired or drunkish there's another 50 or 100 pts handicap

And I win as white 50.3%, but 45.9% as black.
