My first really competitive game

Alright so I'm pretty new to chess. I joined the site a couple weeks ago, and I've been going through the beginner's study guide. It says to analyze your first 100 games to see if you're following the openning principles. So far this is the first game that I thought I played well. I lost, but I think I followed the openning principles fairly well. I would love some feedback on what I did wrong. I annotated some of the moves with my thoughts behind making them.

I think you did quite well. Your comments are accurate, so you are learning the right stuff. You'll win other games, I have no doubt.

Thanks freelunch.

On move 10, you left your queen hanging. I'm surprised your opponent, at the level he is didn't see that. Other than that, you understand the opening well.

Notice that your opponent had the initiative the entire time -- you spent the whole game reacting to his threats.  Your problems really started with 6 ... g6 which is a bad weakening move.  Something like Kh8 might have been better.
