I noticed this opening explorer naming difference too and it is kind of weird to me. I also recognize the transposing thing, but maybe chess.com made a change to be more accurate, but this changed the names in an odd way for the first few moves.
Opening names are completely wrong(?)
“This is the Indian Game opening. You've played this opening 0times as white, with a 0% win rate.“ My opponent played the Indian. I (white) played the London. And as always, it says I’ve never played this opening before, when I’ve done at hundreds of times. How is this not fixed yet? It’s hard to take the virtual coach’s advice seriously when he gets the opening wrong every time.
Recently I've noticed that certain openings "transpose" into other position on move 3-6. For example. playing the italian is called the bishop's opening, and with Bc5 the boi variation. Same holds true in the queens gambit declined, after 3...Nc3 it's supposedly the english: agincourt defense. Now i am aware that both of those openings result into the same positions, but shouldn't they be called by the more popular names, like the italian and the queens gambit, if they transpose into those anyway?
