3...a6 was unnecessary that early, and simply lost a tempo for your opponent.

4...Qf6 was also poor, as you noticed.

7...Bb7 was not bad, I believe it is fairly common in the setup your opponent is using.

12...d6 closes your light-squared bishop's diagonal, and prevents any tactics involving d5-d6.  It also takes control of e5 to prepare for 13...Nf6 (which could otherwise be answered by 14.e5).

30.f3 doesn't exactly stop any tactics from Black's bishop, but perhaps it is useful to prevent back-rank checkmate.

38.Qxa8 is slow, if you care about that sort of thing.  There is no need to pick up the extra bishop, you already have mate in 6ish.
