Just played in my first tournament, the Eastern Chess Congress - a 2 day tournament.
During this first day I played 3 games.
The time control for game 1 was G/60 D/10 sec:
I was black and my opponent was an elderly gentleman.
During this game my opponent and I started having time pressure at move 34
After I finished this game with my opponent I analyzed it with him until 18 minutes after the first round started! Due to an error in pairing on the behalf of the TD my first game had started ~30 minutes late, and I hadn't kept track of when the next round started, so I was already running low on time for the second game.
The time control for game 2 was G/60 D/10 sec
I was white and my opponent was a fellow about my age.
I started having time trouble early on at around move 15
After this quick round (my opponent used barely 20 minutes), I had time to just take a break. I got pizza and analyzed my first game with the engine (Finally!) and glanced at the second game depressed that I missed a simple tactic I would normally see with ease. It was coming around 5 PM when the final round would start.
The time control for game 3 was G/90 D/10 and after 40 moves 40 minutes were added
I was black and my opponent was a young player who really impressed me with the ideas he was playing in his game. I think his major problem was trading in a positionally worse game.
I started having time trouble at around move 24 (In a G/90!)
... The main thing I learned from tournament play is that I need to learn how to budget time both in-game and out of. I have 2 more games tomorrow which I hopefully won't get into time trouble with. Overall, its been an enjoyable experience filled with sharp games.
Anyways, rate my play!
I realize in some games I missed draws from my opponent and even some serious pawn-promotion threats, but overall I think when I wasn't in too much time-pressure I played well. Rate my play please!
